Can vaping help you get slim?

«If you would go up high, then use your own legs! Do not get yourselves carried aloft; do not seat yourselves on other people's backs and heads! A minimum of 10 000 steps a day, low-fat cottage cheese for breakfast and no beer before bed»

paraphrased Zarathustra like this
It's hard to believe that there is someone who has never pondered going on a diet to drop a few kilos before vacation. From time to time we come across an interesting idea: in theory vaping could help those who are trying to lose weight. Let's clear up this issue.

Excess weight

We asked a nutritionist to explain why people put on weight. The list of reasons was impressive. Here are the main ones:

  • Metabolic disorders;
  • Stress;
  • Hormonal problems.

Excess weight and vaping

To figure out this "vape diet", we need to start by employing two categories: people who vape nicotine and non-nicotine liquids.

Nicotine liquids

Nicotine stimulates metabolism and improves digestion. It also reduces anxiety and calms you down for a short while. Sometimes people who experience stress (after a breakup, for instance) attempt to numb the pain by overeating — this happens more often than one might think. However, we suggest seeing a therapist in such a case, as it's more likely to help.

Well, so far so good. But let's be honest — nicotine does not assist a diet. It will, however, cause a heap of hormonal problems (testosterone in men and estrogen in women). And the calming effect lasts for only half an hour.

Non-nicotine liquids

Liquids without nicotine have one very important property — they can't directly affect your extra kilos. However, they can help in overcoming psychological barriers. First, sweet flavors (especially desserts) are pretty good at satisfying those confectionery cravings. Second, non-nicotine liquids help those who are used to passively chewing something.

Vaping can also help those who regularly overeat — or simply can't feel full when eating small portions. The fact is that when a person eats, the body doesn't immediately realize it's had enough food: the "I'm full" signal takes some time to get from the stomach to the brain. This way, you can eat enough food, but be unaware of it and keep eating. Vaping does wonders in these cases, especially when coupled with a cup of hot tea.

So can it help or not?

It can and it can't. If you bet everything on vaping, then of course you won't lose weight. The kilograms won't go anywhere. And, without considering minor differences, it doesn't matter whether yoг vape nicotine liquids or not. To lose weight, you need to rethink your attitude towards yourself and set clear goals. Vaping can be a pleasant part of your life. But what matters is making it a conscious one.
